It's always said that you shouldn't wait too long before you apologize or heal the rifts in a relationship. This was going to be the year that I made amends with my brother. It wasn't my fault; it wasn't his fault--we were family that had a rift through "settling" our parents' estate. So, this was the year I'd eat my pride. Besides, I didn't want to come to the end of my life and for it to be too late. So, I collected our family photos, little things I knew he'd value. I was getting it all ready. My brother died unexpectedly on October 11, 2013. He was only 65 years old. Too young to leave his wife, children, and me. I waited too long. Now, it'll never be said, the hug will never be given, the hurt will never be healed....too late to say, "I love you."

Wow. Some of these comments make my stomach turn. Let me lay it down. True love is not "selfless" it is mutualistic, meaning it benefits both parties and that is what makes it work. True love is not unconditional. If it was it would have to be based on nothing. True love is based on the identity of the person loved and if that person changes so does your attitude towards them. True love is a reward for virtue, not a blank check on vices.

Love is always been a difficult issue to deal with at times. Yes love has surrounded me by family and close friends but it is hard to love if you don't love yourself first. The world will try to take advantage, mistreat, abuse, lie and decieve you. It has taking me a long time to forgive, to heal and have love for myself- not from anything I did wrong- but for people who have taken advantage of my love and misused it for their personal motives. You have to take a stand, you have to defend yourself from all the bad and negativity in this world.
