I know only of one hero. My son Matthew. I am a single parent of three. My son is now 27. When I divorced, Matt was only five and was always at my side. He wanted to be the man of the house and always protected me and was concerned for his sisters and me. As he grew, we four gained a special bond and always worked together. Never against. And being the oldest, he made sure that's how things went. As he grew into a man and finally graduated from school, he knew that it would be a financial burden on me to put him through college and he so wanted to enroll in the Army. He did. Matt has served almost eight years in the Army; he has served two in Iraq. He is in the medical field. And very recently was diagnosed with a brain tumor in Kuwait. He was flown to Washington DC where only a portion of the tumor was removed. After the surgery he only wanted to return to back his family. Although so much has happened, he still wants to return. He loves his country so much.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
