Young Minds

The value of understanding young minds is something we all come to under-appreciate or not value at all which is quite odd since we all were young once but grew into adults thinking we knew what was best. The twenty-first century has become one of the best generations to promote that it is acceptable to be different and to be one’s own self, that’s cool. Yet, it is only cool if people would actually give people that chance. As children, we just want to be accepted and loved for who we are. We are raised by what older generation, parents, or society want us to be or not to be. Therefore, we become the person that’s wanted. Society has already decided what a person is depending on where they came from. What happened to giving everyone a chance? Don’t we all deserve a clean slate since we couldn’t help environment we were brought into?

This world has numerous opportunities and a person can get anywhere if they really want to. So let us become who we want to be. “…And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds are immune to your consolations. They’re quite aware of what they’re going through…” said David Bowie. Young minds are well aware of the world from an emotional stand point because as they grow older, they forget. The best emotional messes slowly turn out to become the unimportant ones like housing, bills, careers, and affairs – the unimportant messes. “When you grow up your heart dies”, said Allison Reynolds. That’s the truth and it’s brutally unavoidable. As people, what we say and what we do are two different things. We promote diversity on the outside, but not on the inside. No matter what a person chooses in this life for the sake of society, friends, lover, or themselves, it will always end in a trap by either sacrificing what people will think of them or them sacrificing their true self.

In conclusion, people underappreciate what young minds can bring to the table. They tend to obliterate anything a young person might have to offer. Children choose empathy. They think “the big bad world will get me”. Yet, the whole world is trying to find the answer to utopia – a perfect world where everyone is happy and in the right.

Now, I am an idealist, and I know that is impossible. Or maybe that’s my grown-up self-talking. But if we want to start somewhere, why don’t we start listening to what these young adults have to say? Older people think they know it all. Yes, they have learned a great deal from experiencing more life, but where have they gotten us so far otherwise? We live in a dog eat dog world, and setting morals aside to get on top. If we treated children like young adults we would be in a much more beautiful world. Society needs to stop and listen to what they have to say. How children view life and how they feel when they start conquering the world are crucial words to listen to. They are not so simple minded like everyone assumes.
