When I was in the 7th grade, I was the type that never wanted to do work. I was always a lazy kid, doing work for me wasn’t my thing. I always wanted to go to school for friends and just to stay out of the house. But there was one sport that I loved playing and could not live without, it was volleyball. Of course the rules in middle school were to have good grades to be able to play sports.
I was in love with the sport volleyball and every time I play it, I was always in a good mood. But of course I could not play sports if I was a kid that did not do any work and would always get into trouble. So I thought to myself and said, “I do not really want to play sports, if the requirement is to go to all my classes and stay out of trouble. Staying out of trouble would be very hard for me, but then again I do not look for trouble, trouble looks for me. And of course going to classes was the last thing I expected. All of sudden I met a person that change it all.
Meanwhile, schedule changing came. Schedule changing is a day when you can change your classes. I did want to have P.E. for a change, as soon as I had P.E. the very next day that is when I met Heather Carlson. When I was in P.E. I did the usual in the rest of my classes, slack off and be lazy. I did do my work, and I actually like doing work, but I just choose not to. My mom was the only reason why I tried my hardest to do my work, stay out of trouble and go to my classes.
When I switched into Carlson’s class, I would slack off and not come on time. Carlson was that types of teacher that does not tolerate any teenager who slacked off and did not do work. She talked to me about volleyball, because she can see it in her eyes how much I love playing volleyball. So a few days after she pushed me to actually do more work than I thought I could do. I felt closer to Carlson; I loved her humor when she would say “I will kick your butt if you do not do your work!”
Now that I am on track and doing my work, I was a kid that never wanted to do work and was lazy. I will always remember what Heather Carlson has done for me. Thinking to myself how much I improved on my work and my behavior. I should push myself to the limit where I can succeed in life and to always reach my goals. My hero is Heather Carlson.
