My name is Loreen Theveny. In 1996 I became homeless for a brief time. I had been on disability insurance for two years and in the two months following my last check, I no longer had housing. I was admitted to a shelter, where I resided for two months. I was able to place my name on several federal subsidized housing lists as well as re-enroll in junior college. I am a first generation college student in my immediate single parent head of household family and I also have a learning disability. This was established soon after enrolling in college by alert professionals. I had to take public transportation and rely on financial aid and scholarships throughout my journey, but I am now completing two masters-one in social justice and one in social work, and without the support of others along the way and my personal faith, I don't think I would have survived. I dared to dream and with a lot of perseverance and determination my primary goal of gaining a chance at an education has become a reality.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
