I am a receptionist at a specialist doctors office and am responsible for checking patients in and collecting payment due "at the time of service." One day I explained our office policy to a new patient and let her know that we would collect payment upon check out since charges couldn't be assessed until she'd seen the doctor. The patient nodded politely and went on to see the doctor. At check out she tearfully explained she really did not have the money to pay but really needed treatment so was afraid to tell us prior to the appointment. I could only ask that she try and bring the money back at her earliest convenience, to which she agreed then left. Another patient who had been waiting behind her overheard our conversation and graciously told me she would be happy to pay the previous patients bill. I called the patient, after the fact, to let her know her bill had been paid in full. She was very surprised and grateful to her anonymous benefactor. I've been in the healthcare field a long time and this was the first time I encountered anyone so concerned with a strangers needs. Renews your faith in the human race.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
