I am nominating my soccer coach, Cleve Pechuekonis for Commitment. He is the best, if not one of the best coaches I have ever had. I chose him because he has done so much for the team. The season started this past August and no one really knew each other, which made it really hard to communicate, practice and really play our best. Seeing that, Cleve was definitely committed to making sure that everyone got closer, and got to know each other better. With that being said, he wanted us to hang out and see each other a lot out of soccer. As we all got to know each other better, we started playing better.
Farther into the season, when our first tournament was right around the corner, Cleve was dedicated to making us practice, train, and work hard. Through sweat and sometimes some tears, he knew that we would be successful if we worked for it. Every practice he would bump up the intensity to be 100% sure that we would be ready for our upcoming competition.
During that tournament, we did pretty good. Win, win, loss. Cleve was satisfied in the we played, and our scores. That next weekend, our regular season started. We still trained 3 days a week, and practiced at home. Saturday came, and we hoped to start off the season right. Well, we lost that game, and started a losing streak. We all thought that we were 110% committed, and dedicated but Cleve thought otherwise. He noticed that we weren’t working as hard as we used to, didn’t take practice seriously, and we just weren’t clicking together anymore.
We were all really upset how our season was going, and Cleve couldn’t take anymore slack. He signed us up for Champions, a speed and agility school in Cornelius. It was very intense. Cleve wanted us to get better, and hoped that going to the speed school would help. The following weekends our speed and agility did improve.
Throughout the entire fall season, Cleve has helped each and every one of us to overcome the troubles that we were individually having. He helped us become a better team, and work better together. Although some mean things have been said before, we all know that Cleve is proud of us, and cares for each of us. I hope he knows how much we appreciate him, and how thankful we are that he is our coach.
