My hero is my mother. As a single mother of three young children, she raised us on a waitress's salary. We never went without having everything we needed. We lived in a highrise apartment building, but she made us feel as if we lived in a castle. Times were very difficult for my mother. At times I heard her crying. The three of us would do all of the cleaning and as we got older, we would even do the laundry. She taught us how to cook. She made us very self sufficient. As we came through adolecence, it was obvious what kind of individuals we have become. My sister would marry soon after graduating from high school. I wanted to get to know my father, whom we haven't seen in years. My younger brother stayed with our mom. I knew mom would eventually remarry. She had a male friend as we grew but no commitment. After Min got married and I moved in with my father, my mom remarried. She was very happy and none more deserving. As I grew and got out in the world. I realized how greatful I have become knowing I was blessed having been raised by a wonderful mother.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
